Climax Molybdenum Company

Climax Molybdenum Company, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan, is the world’s leading molybdenum producer and supplier. Founded in 1916, our global operations include both primary and byproduct molybdenum mines. Integrated global operations and local customer care provide our worldwide partners with the most reliable supply and highest quality molybdenum products.  Almost everyone depends on molybdenum, even though they may not realize it. Moly is used as an addition to steels, irons and non-ferrous alloys as a strengthening agent to make things like airplanes and automobiles, as well as in everyday household items such as light bulbs, the tubes in televisions, and much more.

Freeport-McMoRan’s future success depends on a qualified and skilled workforce, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Our skilled and versatile team finds, extracts, processes and provides the raw materials that fuel and connect the world. The elements we supply play a crucial role in delivering the technology that drives the future

We place an emphasis on programs and initiatives that improve STEM education to help students acquire the skills necessary for success in a global, knowledge-based economy and society. The programs we support are designed or selected for their ability to increase student interest, improve teacher quality and confidence, and ultimately improve student achievement and outcomes in STEM disciplines, with the ultimate goal of inspiring them to pursue post-secondary degrees or trade and technical certifications – and ultimately careers – in mining and other STEM related industries.

Over the past 5 years, we have invested nearly $14 million in STEM education at the K-12 and post-secondary levels, primarily in Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico where our largest U.S. operations are located.
