Colorado STEM: Our Partners
Blair and Kristin Richardson Foundation — Smithsonian Science Education Center LASER program
The Blair and Kristin Richardson Foundation is the lead partner in supporting the Smithsonian to pilot an established K-8 science reform model in Colorado to ensure more students have access to quality science instruction in the early grades. Through investing financial resources and time this program – LASER – is currently being piloted in 5 schools in Colorado this year and is reaching over 12,000 students. This is a highly effective program, particularly at increasing academic outcomes for English Language Learners, and is currently in the process of full scale validation and moving toward scale up. The Colorado STEM Education Roadmap, identifies increasing both access to STEM education in rural communities and the amount of time spent on science in the early grades as key priorities in ensuring all Colorado students have access to the instruction and experiences needed to succeed in Colorado’s increasingly innovation-based economy.
The Colorado Education Initiative — K-12 STEM education partner and backbone organization to Colorado STEM
CEI is an independent nonprofit working in partnership with the Department of Education, educators, schools, districts, and other public education stakeholders to unlock the unique potential of every student by incubating innovation, shining a spotlight on success, and investing in sustainable change that improves outcomes for all students. CEI envisions that every student in Colorado is prepared and unafraid to succeed in school, work, and life, and ready to take on the challenges of today, tomorrow, and beyond.
Colorado Succeeds — policy and advocacy partner
Colorado Succeeds’ members are the state’s business leaders who have joined forces to make sure the education system works better and smarter for all the people of Colorado. We believe Colorado is the best place to live and work, and we want it to stay that way. This great state can only continue its tradition of excellence when all of our children are educated to their highest potential and all of our businesses have the talented and innovative homegrown workforce they need. Education is the key—it unlocks success for everyone. It’s every child’s right and every business’s most precious resource. We believe great schools are good business. We know when Colorado schools improve, everybody wins.
Colorado’s students need skills to compete in the state’s job market. To increase locally sourced talent, we advocate for better access, more options, and higher quality educational experiences in STEM. For example, the Colorado Succeeds Talent Task Force, a group of business leaders, is examining the link between educational experiences and workforce needs, identifying policy barriers and opportunities to STEM and career technical education.
Colorado Technology Foundation — industry association partner
Since 1994, the Colorado Technology Association has supported education and workforce initiatives, and 2014 marked the launch of our 501(c)3 Foundation, bringing this support full circle. The Colorado Technology Foundation (CTF) leads the network of companies to influence the development of a robust talent pipeline.
At the Colorado Technology Foundation, we:
- Bridge companies to STEM education, technology and workforce programs that best align to employers’ job-driven needs and community engagement priorities to drive impactful employer engagement
- Lead and participate in strategic partnerships and initiatives that bring systemic improvements to STEM education and workforce to scale tech talent development statewide
Colorado’s technology economy is growing such that our ability to develop a workforce is not keeping up with demand in the marketplace. Today, there are 10K+ tech companies and 101K+ technology professionals spanning all industries. This growing, sizable workforce also requires regular up skilling as technology continues to advance at an even faster pace. It is, therefore, critical that we focus on building a pipeline of qualified workers to support the ongoing success of Colorado’s tech economy. To continually build this workforce, over time across the age spectrum, requires a more streamlined approach to company engagement.
